Location: Hybrid (Remote and occasional on-site visits across the greater Philadelphia area)
Time Commitment: 5–10 hours/week, August–December 2025
Reports To: Nikki Spector, Greater Philadelphia Director of Programming
About Girls in Gear
At Girls in Gear, we’re on a mission to make sure every girl has the chance to grow into the biggest, boldest, and brightest version of themselves - on and off their bike. We work with girls of all ages and abilities, using our comprehensive, age-appropriate curriculums that blend social-emotional learning with bike-handling techniques, or life skills through bike skills.
Position Overview
The Greater Philadelphia Programming Intern will work alongside the Philadelphia Director of Programming to support the fall season of Girls in Gear. This is a hands-on opportunity to gain experience in nonprofit program coordination, volunteer engagement, and youth development in a mission-driven environment. You’ll help ensure that our programs run smoothly while learning the ins and outs of grassroots nonprofit work.
Key Responsibilities
Program Support
Assist with program registration and participant communication
Support coach trainings by preparing materials and logistics
Help manage the inventory and distribution of seasonal supplies (curriculum, t-shirts, program supplies, bikes, etc.)
Learn and assist with Pinwheel (our registration platform) to input data and run reports
Track attendance and follow up on outstanding registrations and payments
Volunteer and Site Support
Support communication with volunteer coaches and respond to routine inquiries
Help schedule site visits and organize evaluations to ensure quality programming
Assist with the preparation and distribution of coaching resources and curriculum materials
Participate in occasional on-site visits (as schedule and location allow)
Administrative & Organizational Support
Attend monthly team check-ins and contribute to discussions on program innovation
Help maintain accurate records related to coaches, participants, and program sites
Collaborate on end-of-season wrap-up, including feedback collection and inventory tracking
Join community events and trainings when available to represent Girls in Gear and gain exposure to nonprofit operations
What We’re Looking For
Passion for girls’ development, bikes, or youth education
Strong attention to detail and organization
Clear communicator and team player
Comfortable working independently and asking questions when unsure
Willingness to learn new platforms (training provided for Pinwheel and other tools)
Availability for occasional evenings or weekends (flexible based on schedule)

The mission of the Girls in Gear National and Regional Boards are to broaden the awareness of our programs, increase diversity within the volunteer community, and raise vital funds to support the work and mission of the organization wherever we have programming.
In collaboration with our staff, board members participate in a variety of volunteer and fundraising activities to help sustain and deepen our mission in the areas we serve.
